Oil on Sized Paper, 2011
These works were created by stretching watercolor paper and then sizing it with several layers of glue in order to protect the paper from the oil paint itself. The paintings were all created on location during the spring of 2011 when ships are being built on the river and the blossoming trees are at their finest. I used a combination of charcoal and oil and for some of the paintings I used disposable kitchen gloves to apply turpentine in order to get smear out some of the drawing and also produce a wet on wet effect with drips and runs--something spontaneous and full of energy.
