2010 Ganzi Series
This series of highly abstracted plein air paintings was completed in summer of 2010 just after completion of the Yunnan Series. In an effort not to continue the rather tedious work I had begun in Yunnan, I colored many of the canvases before I started painting and wrote notes on the canvases prior to leaving for the region. I used song lyrics, lines from poetry or from the Bible, from a book on Thai Buddism, or memories from my childhood. I used these short messages as starting points so that I wouldn't really on my usual way of starting a painting. The result is a more expressive, perhaps more creative approach to landscape painting. Paintings are roughly 50x60cm.
