Xihu Wetlands, Yunnan Province, 2014
This series is inspired by an exhibition entitled Impressionism on the Water held at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco last year.
It began with preconceptions of what I would do and a bit of obsession over what I had seen during that exhibition. The series demanded I go through this awkward process of painting nice paintings, but then halfway through I lost direction realizing that I couldn't go on trying to produce a certain type of painting based on the subject matter. Things got better quickly. The paintings are placed roughly in the order that they were completed.
About 50x70 cm except for the two small cloud studies which are about 30 x 50 cm.
