These simple charcoal and Chinese paint sketches were created sometime last year when I was experimenting with automatic drawing techniques. Drawn in one day and then colored in the following week, they were then put on the shelf until last week when I got them out looking for a way of starting on two larger paintings. I realized right away that these works are probably some of the most important of the past two years. Though they are drawn on low quality IKEA wrapping paper and never really considered as finished works, I now see them as more powerful and more beautiful than most of the larger paintings that I've been working on.
